RIDGEWAY THERAPY DOG PROGRAM

 

Nor’wester Readers…..read up a storm!

 

Not only is Wes an AKC Champion, successful sire, CGC-Canine Good Citizen, and wonderful, devoted family dog, he is also a popular and well-loved therapy dog. Working under the auspices of Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Wes piloted a 2007-08 canine assisted learning program in Council Rock School District which took his name and is now called Nor’wester Readers.  Dr. Pat Carney-Dalton, former principal of the pilot school, recalled one of her favorite education quotes: “Confidence is a memory of success.” After observing the students respond so positively to Wes’s presence, she acknowledged that “Wes gave these students that memory.” He continues to work with children who are struggling readers as well as in the community library, nursing homes, and with community groups such as the girl scouts. We are proud of Wes’s offspring who have inherited their dad’s wonderful temperament and are also Canine Good Citizens and amazing certified working therapy dogs.

Both Sadie and Hannah are following in their sire’s paw-prints by visiting weekly in Council Rock classrooms as Nor’wester Readers therapy dogs and helping children to become life-long lovers of reading.
